The flagship course of Granite Mountain Guides, the Gym-to-Crag will make your transition from the Climbing Gym to the Outdoor Crag as smooth as ever! This AZWCC x GMG Course will visit the area of Upper Sullivan's Canyon, where guests will be able to learn about the unique characteristics of this quiet area. This area is currently needing our protection and is the core of the Save Sullivan’s Campaign. Granite Mountain Guides is matching up to $1,000 in donations from March 15th- April 15th to support this cause.

This two-day Gym-to-Crag Course is designed for those who have had the opportunity to climb indoors for about 4 - 6 months and familiarize themselves with common climbing systems such as top-roping and/or lead climbing. This course does not teach lead climbing so there is a strong suggestion to be lead certified in the gym; however, the guides will be able to work with anyone who has never lead climbed before. This course is all-encompassing and starts off with a ground school session, where the fundamentals of bolted top-rope anchors and the differences between outdoor climbing versus indoor climbing are discussed. From there it provides the necessary skills to either rappel or lower back to the ground and retrieve your rope at the end of the day at the crag. Every participant will have an opportunity to practice all of these new skills while under the supervision of an experienced, and AMGA Certified Single-Pitch Instructor.

This 2-day course is hosted in Prescott, but AZWCC & GMG are not providing organized camping nor group dinners for this weekend. This will be the responsibility of each guest. In addition, this course does NOT include instruction on how to lead climb. If you have practiced lead climbing in the climbing gym, then course participants will be provided opportunities to practice those skills during this course.

Suggestions for where to camp include dispersed camping in the Prescott National Forest, White Spar Campground (reserve online here), and Watson Lake Campground (reserve online here).
